An AI demo agent is software that holds a live conversation with a prospect and shows them a product while it talks. The visitor speaks or types a question, and the agent answers in voice while it opens the relevant screens in a real browser. It is a different thing from a chatbot that returns text, and from a recorded walkthrough that cannot hear the question.
What the definition includes
Three parts have to be present for something to count as a demo agent rather than a chatbot with a nicer interface.
- It converses. The visitor can interrupt, change subject and ask something nobody scripted.
- It shows the product. The agent drives a browser on a real instance of your product, so the visitor watches the answer happen.
- It knows your product. Answers come from knowledge you have approved: your pages, your documents, your help content.
Take any one away and the experience changes. Without the browser it is a chatbot. Without the conversation it is a recording. Without grounded knowledge it will make things up, which is the failure that matters most in front of a buyer.
How it differs from what you already use
| Chatbot | Interactive demo | AI demo agent | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Answers a new question | Yes, in text | No | Yes, in voice |
| Shows the product | Rarely | Yes, a fixed path | Yes, any path the question needs |
| Uses the real product | No | Usually a captured copy | Yes, a live browser |
| Needs a person | For hard cases | No | For relationships, not first demos |
Interactive demo tools are good at a controlled, polished path and are worth keeping for it. A demo agent is for the visitor who arrives with a question that is not on the path. Read the full comparison of live and interactive demos.
What a visitor experiences
On a Zodiem page the visitor clicks a button, enters a name and work email on a short start screen, and the call begins. The agent introduces itself as an AI agent. The visitor asks, for example, how reporting works, and the agent opens that screen in the product and talks them through it. If the visitor then asks about pricing, the agent moves there. At the end the visitor has seen the parts of the product they care about, in the order they cared about them.
What your team receives
Every session produces a transcript, a short summary, an interest level and a suggested next step. These go to Slack or any webhook. Your seller opens a lead that says what the buyer asked and what they saw, instead of a form with a name and a company size. Questions the agent could not answer land in an inbox so you can close the gap in your knowledge. See lead intelligence.
Where it fits and where it does not
A demo agent suits software that can be shown in a browser and sold through a demo: B2B SaaS, internal tools, platforms with a dashboard. It is a weaker fit for products that cannot be explored safely in a demo workspace, and for deals where the first conversation must be with a named human for legal or relationship reasons. It also speaks English only today, which rules out some markets until multi-language support ships.
What to check before you buy any of them
- Does it say it is an AI? It should, from the first second.
- Can you see and approve what it knows, and fix a wrong answer?
- What happens when it does not know? A good agent says so and routes the question to you.
- Does it run on a demo workspace, never on customer data?
- Are the vendor's claims specific and sourced, or are they adjectives?
